Aztec Sense streaks into Turning for Home

Parx Racing has put together a solid Saturday card that is anchored by the $100,000 Turning for Home, a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and up. The field includes the Jorge Navarro-trained Aztec Sense and the Robertino Diodoro-conditioned Chris and Dave.
The Turning for Home, which is named after the Thoroughbred retirement program at Parx, is preceded by three allowance races. A pick four links the sequence, which starts with a no-conditions turf sprint and is followed by two first-level allowances.
Aztec Sense has won three straight races for Navarro, who claimed him for $12,500 at Parx last August. He comes into the Turning for Home off a 6 1/4-length victory over a muddy track in a second-level optional claimer at Monmouth Park. Before that he won the Rough and Ready, a $12,500 starter-allowance stakes. He began his streak in an optional-starter race at Gulfstream Park.
Chris and Dave figures to be the second betting choice. He has six straight second- or third-place finishes, including an allowance race at Oaklawn Park where he finished first and was disqualified to third. He comes into this race off a runner-up effort in a first-level allowance at Belmont Park and has a lifetime record of 6-10-5 from 32 starts.
In the no-conditions turf sprint, Dubini and Pool Winner, who finished second and third in the $200,000 Pennsylvania Governor’s Cup at Penn National, look solid.
Dubini, who merits a slight edge for trainer Kate DeMasi, finished well but ran out of ground and ended up second, beaten three-quarters of a length by Oak Bluffs.
Pool Winner set the pace for trainer Alan Goldberg and finished third, beaten a length.
A longer shot to consider is Snowday, who has a history of running well fresh for trainer J. Willard Thompson.
