Awsome Faith ($76) surprises in W.V. Breeders' Classic

There were a number of notable feats on Saturday’s card at Charles Town, led by the 37-1 upset Awsome Faith pulled in the $150,000 West Virginia Breeders' Classic and the five-win night from stallion Fiber Sonde.
The Classic was the main event on a card of nine stakes that made up the annual West Virginia Breeders' Classics. The races catered to different divisions and were all restricted to horses bred in West Virginia.
Awsome Faith ($76) trailed the field at one point in the Classic as Hero’s Man set fractions of 23.40 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.14 for the half-mile and 1:12.76 for six furlongs in the 1 1/8-mile race run around three turns. Awsome Faith rallied through the lane to get up for a half-length win over Buff’s Eye View. It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to North Atlantic.

Runnin’toluvya, a Grade 2-winning millioinaire who was 2-5, finished sixth.
Awsome Faith covered the distance on a fast track in 1:54.27. Antonio Lopez was aboard for owner and trainer Jeffrey Allen.
Awsome Faith, a 7-year-old by Friesan Fire, won his first stakes race Saturday night, and with the victory improved his record to 10 for 52 for earnings of $312,857.
The card opened with Dr. Feelgood winning his sixth straight race in the $70,000 Dash for Cash. He led throughout for a 2 1/4-length win over Sagebrush.
There was no show wagering in the four-horse field after the late scratch of Grumpelstiltskin. The start was delayed after he acted up and landed under the gate. He jogged off from the incident.
Dr. Feelgood ($2.20) set fractions of 21.69 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.54 for the half-mile before winning the 4 1/2-furlong race in 50.91.
Darius Thorpe was aboard for Jill Daniel and trainer Crystal Pickett.
Dr. Feelgood is now 10 for 10 at the distance of 4 1/2 furlongs. He won his fifth stakes Saturday to improve his career record to 13 for 15 for earnings of $292,745.
Bridging the Gap won her fourth straight race when she wired the field in the $100,000 West Virginia Cavada Breeders' Classic. She darted home by 6 1/4 lengths over Lady Storm, while it was another 3 1/2 lengths back to Sherwood Lady in third.
Bridging the Gap ($2.40) set fractions of 23.55 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.72 for the half-mile, and 1:11.97 for six furlongs before covering the seven-eighths run around two turns in 1:25.67.
Reshawn Latchman was aboard for owner and trainer John D. McKee.
Dr. Feelgood and Bridging the Gap are both by the stallion Fiber Sonde, who sired five stakes winners on the card. His other winners came in the $70,000 Vincent Moscarelli Memorial with Youthinkthatsfunny; the $70,000 West Virginia Breeders' Association Onion Juice Breeders' Classic with Penguin Power; and the $70,000 West Virginia Lottery Breeders' Classic with Fancy Concho.
Penguin Power was a 14 1/2-length winner, in another notable feat Saturday.
