Awesome Again, English Channel doubly represented in Pegasus races

Awesome Again and English Channel aren’t just represented in Gulfstream Park’s Pegasus World Cup races this Saturday, they’re represented in double. Awesome Again has two offspring in the $9 million Pegasus World Cup, and English Channel has two in the $7 million Pegasus World Cup Turf.
The Pegasus World Cup races are the brainchild of Frank Stronach, who campaigned 1998 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Awesome Again as a homebred, and stands him at his Adena Springs in Kentucky. Awesome Again is represented in the Pegasus World Cup by Calumet Farm’s classic-placed homebred Bravazo, and by Adena’s Grade 2-winning homebred Something Awesome. Awesome Again is also the broodmare sire of the race favorite, Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Accelerate. Accelerate’s dam, Issues, is also the dam of stakes winners Amarish and Daddy D T.
Champion turf horse English Channel, who stands at Calumet, has Grade 1 winner Channel Maker and recent Grade 3 winner Fahan Mura in the inaugural running of the Pegasus World Cup Turf. A strong performance would give English Channel a leg up in the turf sire standings for the season, as he seeks to dethrone six-time consecutive North American leader Kitten’s Joy. Kitten’s Joy is represented in the Pegasus Turf by Breeders’ Cup Mile runner-up Catapult.
English Channel also has two big chances on the Saturday undercard. His multiple Grade 1 winner Johnny Bear – a full brother to Channel Maker – runs in the Grade 3 W. L. McKnight in the race prior to the Pegasus Turf, and English Affair contests the Grade 3 La Prevoyante.
