Avalina an easy winner in Parx Spring Oaks

Avalina improved her career record to three wins in four starts with an easy victory in the $75,000 Parx Spring Oaks on Monday.
Trained by Danny Gargan and owned by John O’Hara, Avalina pressed the pace in the one mile and 70-yard Oaks outside debut winner Neom to the top of the stretch, took command, and then pulled away to an 8 1/4-length decision while not being asked for her best in the final furlong by jockey Kendrick Carmouche.
Avalina paid $3.80 and was timed over a fast track in 1:43.95. She could have gone faster if asked.
Getting Warmer, the second choice in the eight-horse field at 5-2, finished evenly to hold second by a half-length over Getouttamyway, who edged out fourth-place finisher Afleet Destiny by a head.
Neom was finished by upper stretch, shortened stride, and ended up fifth, eight lengths behind Afleet Destiny.
Avalina won her debut at Aqueduct in February for a $50,000 claiming tag by 13 lengths. She was beaten a head in a $50,000 starter race at Aqueduct in her second start, then came back to score at that same level at Belmont Park by 7 3/4 lengths.
The Parx Spring Oaks was the first start beyond a mile and the first around two turns for Avalina, a daughter of Take of Ekati.
