Avadiva rewards owner’s patience

Trainer Robbie Anderson gave owner Mauro Comensolli most of the credit for Avadiva’s front-running win in the $50,000 Brighouse Belles at Hastings last Sunday. The 5-year-old Avadiva was making just her ninth start in the Brighouse Belles.
“Avadiva bucked her shins at 2, chipped a knee at 3, and she pulled something behind at Turf Paradise in the winter when she was 4,” said Anderson. “Then, when she came back to Hastings, I had her ready to run, and she fractured her pastern, so I had to lay her up again. Most owners would have given up on her, but Mauro’s patience finally paid off.”
Avadiva was coming off a runner-up finish in a second-level allowance race at Turf Paradise on March 26.
“She was the only horse in the field that had been racing this year, so we thought she would have a fitness edge,” said Anderson. “We also got a little lucky when Morning Coffee didn’t break that well. She came out of the race in great shape, so we’ll bring her back in the Sun.”
The $50,000 Vancouver Sun will share top billing with the $50,000 George Royal on May 7.
Trainer Dino Condilenios said that Modern came out of his sharp win in the Swift Thoroughbreds Inaugural in good condition and will defend his title in the George Royal.
