Internet voters have selected last year’s win by Authentic in the rescheduled Kentucky Derby as the National Thoroughbred Racing Association’s 2020 Moment of the Year, the NTRA announced Thursday. The Sept. 5 Kentucky Derby victory by Authentic registered 1,363 votes from the 3,403 votes cast on the NTRA website and the social-media website Twitter. The NTRA had posted 11 different events that occurred during the 2020 calendar year as being eligible for the award. Authentic, who is co-owned by the micro-share partnership MyRacehorse, also accounted for the second-highest total with his win in the Nov. 7 Breeders’ Cup Classic, with 1,020 votes. Authentic is considered a leading candidate for Horse of the Year. Since the vote was launched in 2000, it has been recognized during the Eclipse Awards ceremony, which is scheduled for Thursday night.
