Australia: Wren's Day and Samantha Clenton team up in Tamworth Showcase Cup
Wren’s Day is a 7-year-old Kentucky-bred gelding who finished second in the Group 1 Prix Ganay at Longchamp Racecourse in France in 2018.
Since early 2019, Wren’s Day has been based in Australia, first with trainer James Cummings and this year with Cody Morgan. Wren’s Day has had a good year, winning once and finishing second in three starts.
By Medaglia d’Oro, Wren’s Day will start in his richest race since May in Friday’s $155,060 Tamworth Showcase Cup at Tamworth Racecourse. A winner of 4 of 18 starts, Wren’s Day will carry top weight of 131 pounds and will be ridden for the first time by Samantha Clenton, who had won with six of 50 mounts from last May to Wednesday.

Clenton did not ride from mid-May to mid-February of this year because of a recurrence of a back injury. At the time she was sidelined last year, Clenton had won 89 races in the 2019-20 season, good enough to rank in the top 12 for the entire season at tracks in the state of New South Wales. Clenton missed the final 10 weeks of that season.
Clenton is likely to have Wren’s Day in a stalking position in the seven-furlong Tamworth Showcase Cup.
Wren’s Day will be in pursuit of Petronius, the winner of a seven-furlong handicap on the Kensington course at Royal Randwick on March 17, but seventh of 14 in the Muswellbrook Cup at 7 1/2 furlongs on March 26. Petronius, trained by Gary Moore, was beaten 3 1/4 lengths at Muswellbrook after racing near the front for the first six furlongs.
Total Recall is a significant threat from slightly off the pace.
A winner of 5 of 12 starts, Total Recall is sharp. A 4-year-old gelding, Total Recall won a seven-furlong handicap at Tamworth on April 6 in his first start since early November.
The Tamworth Showcase Cup is part of an eight-race program that begins at 10:40 p.m., Eastern, or 7:40 p.m., Pacific, on Thursday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
