Australia: White Hawk goes for Summer Cup repeat but won't be 100-1 this time
White Hawk was 100-1 when he scored a shocking win in the Summer Cup at Hobart Racecourse in Australia last January.
A year later, White Hawk is 8 and still winning as a longshot, though not at such a spectacular price. On Dec. 3, White Hawk won a handicap at about a mile at odds of 60-1 on the synthetic track at Devonport Racecourse. On Jan. 5, White Hawk won the Devonport Handicap at 1 3/16 miles at 16-1 at Devonport.
Sunday, White Hawk returns to the Summer Cup, which is run at 1 3/8 miles on turf. He is not likely to be favored in a full field of 14, but doubtful to be as high a price as his recent wins for trainer Angela Brakey.
The Summer Cup is the eighth race on a nine-race program that begins at 8:35 p.m. Eastern or 5:35 p.m. Pacific on Saturday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.

The Summer Cup is a weight-for-age race. White Hawk, who has won 13 of 64 starts, will be ridden by Mehmet Ulucinar, who was aboard for the two recent upset wins. Ulucinar, who is from Turkey, is likely to have White Hawk in a stalking position.
The extended distance of the Summer Cup should not be an issue for Swoop Dog, who was third in the Tasmanian Derby at 1 3/8 miles on turf at Hobart last February. Swoop Dog was second to White Hawk in the Devonport Handicap, missing by a nose.
Full Knots Ahead, a 6-year-old mare, will face a class test following consecutive wins in handicaps at 1 5/16 miles at Hobart on Dec. 29 and Jan. 7. In both races, Full Knots Ahead raced near the front throughout, winning by eight lengths on Dec. 29 and by a nose on Jan. 7.
Full Knots Ahead is trained by Sigrid Carr, who also rides the mare.
