Australia: Unamerican goes longer again at Hawkesbury
Unamerican finished with enthusiasm for his second career win in a handicap at about 1 3/16 miles at Newcastle Racecourse in Australia on Oct. 19.
The style of the win suggests Unamerican can win longer races, even though he was tried at extended distances in April and May. The next opportunity comes in a handicap at 1 1/4 miles at Hawkesbury Racecourse on Tuesday.
Unamerican is likely to be a strong favorite even though the Australian-bred gelding will carry topweight of 134.4 pounds. Rachel King had the mount on Unamerican on Oct. 19 and will again Tuesday.

Trained by Richard and Michael Freedman, Unamerican has had 10 starts and ended a four-race losing streak at Newcastle. He was second in handicaps at 1 5/16 miles at Wyong on April 16 and in a race at Newcastle at about 1 7/16 miles on May 2 before a four-month break during the Australian winter.
Unamerican typically runs from off the pace, a style that should be helped to some extent by the presence of Appetizing and Bob, who have both shown speed.
Appetizing, a 6-year-old Australian-bred gelding, is winless in six starts, and was a close third by a little more than a neck in a handicap at 1 1/4 miles at Canberra Racecourse on Oct. 9.
Bob, a 3-year-old colt, is starting at 1 1/4 miles for the first time in his sixth start. He won a maiden race in his third start at 1 1/8 miles at Hawkesbury on Sept. 10 and has since finished seventh in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes at 1 1/8 miles at Rosehill Gardens on Sept. 26 as a 30-1 outsider, and was third as the 5-2 joint-favorite in a handicap at Hawkesbury on Oct. 11, losing by a half-length.
Tuesday’s race drew a field of eight and is the first race on a seven-race program that begins at 11:15 p.m. Eastern, or 8:15 p.m. Pacific, on Monday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
