Australia: Trescha can revive career with win at Taree
The 6-year-old Australian mare Trescha is showing signs of a career revival despite a 12-race losing streak.
Trescha, winner of three of 29 starts, has not won since July 2020, but ran well enough in a recent start at Port Macquarie to suggest she can be a factor in a handicap at 1 1/4 miles at Taree Racecourse on Monday.
Trained by Tracey Bartley, Trescha was second by a little more than 2 1/4 lengths in a handicap at 7 1/2 furlongs at Port Macquarie on Nov. 11.
Trescha’s appearance at Taree will be her third start after a five-month layoff and first start at 1 1/4 miles in more than a year. In October 2019, Trescha was a good third in a handicap at 1 1/4 miles at Hawkesbury Racecourse.

Trescha is part of a field of 10 in the first of seven races at Taree. Post time is 9:25 p.m. Eastern, or 6:25 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
As of Saturday, Trescha was the second choice in early betting behind Italian Tune, a 5-year-old gelding who is winless in his last six starts. Trained by Brad Munro, Italian Tune has won 2 of 4 starts at 1 1/4 miles in his 27-race career, which includes three wins. Italian Tune was fifth in a handicap at about 1 7/16 miles at Grafton Racecourse on Nov. 19, closing from 10th in a field of 12 to miss by 2 1/2 lengths as the 3-1 favorite.
Italian Tune won a handicap at 1 1/4 miles at Taree in August in his only appearance at the course, which is well north of Sydney.
Trescha and Italian Tune will carry 129 pounds, far less than topweight Prospero at 146.
Prospero was sixth and eighth in handicaps at 6 3/4 furlongs and a mile on Oct. 25 and Nov. 13, and has won at 1 1/4 miles. If the weight assignment is not too great of a burden, the 6-year-old gelding should be better suited to this distance.
