Australia: Time to Dazzle's connections would settle for any kind of win

Steve Andersen|Jan 10, 2023

A month after she returned to racing following an eight-month layoff, Time to Dazzle starts at a mile in a handicap at Gunnedah Racecourse in Australia on Wednesday evening.

The distance could be key in an attempt to end a 10-race losing streak since July 2021.

A winner of 4 of 29 starts, Time to Dazzle has won at distances ranging from a mile to 1 1/4 miles. Since her return to racing in December, Time to Dazzle has finished sixth in a race at six furlongs on Dec. 13 and a brighter third by 2 1/2 lengths at seven furlongs on Dec. 23.

A 6-year-old New Zealand-bred mare, Time to Dazzle is trained by Sally Torrens, who is based at Gunnedah. In her career, Time to Dazzle is winless in four starts at Gunnedah, but was third in a one-mile handicap at the countryside venue in September 2021 when trained by Michael Craig.

Time to Dazzle was the 4-1 favorite in early betting as of Tuesday in a field of 13 that lacks a standout. Time to Dazzle will break from post 2 and will be ridden for the first time since 2020 by Aaron Bullock.

Bullock has been the jockey to follow in the Australian state of New South Wales recently. He won with 15 of 50 mounts from Dec. 15 through Saturday. His next mounts are at Gunnedah on Wednesday evening.

Ringside, a 7-year-old gelding, will be the runner to catch. Trained by Kelly Smith, Ringside has won 7 of 50 starts, including four races at seven furlongs, but has not won in four career starts at a mile.

Ringside’s recent form is easy to like. He has been in the first three in his last five starts, a sequence that includes a win at seven furlongs against a lower class of handicap rivals at Moree on Dec. 17.

Ringside finished second in a seven-furlong handicap at Dubbo on Monday and will have a rapid turnaround for the race at Gunnedah, which is not unheard of in Australia.

Gunnedah has an eight-race program beginning at 9:30 p.m. Eastern or 6:30 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
