Australia: Spritza Seritza faces winners again in Tuesday handicap

Steve Andersen|Aug 22, 2021

At first glance, Spritza Seritza appears to have run a quiet fifth in a six-furlong handicap at Scone Racecourse in Australia on July 26 in her first start against winners. She was 16-1, raced in sixth place early and was beaten 2 1/2 lengths.

It turns out Spritza Seritza kept good company. Race winner Empowerment and third-place finisher The Storm in Me returned to win their next starts. Spritza Seritza finished a little less than a length behind The Storm in Me.

On Tuesday, Spritza Seritza starts in her second race against winners in a handicap for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs at Scone Racecourse. The July 26 race at Scone included males.

This time, there is no clear favorite in a wide-open field of 14. As of Sunday, Ciccina was the 5-1 favorite, All That Sass was 6-1 and Spritza Seritza was 8-1.

This handicap will be Ciccina’s debut against winners in her third start. A 4-year-old New Zealand-bred, Ciccina was 10th in a maiden race in her debut at Gosford in January, and did not race again for six months, returning to win a maiden race at 6 1/4 furlongs at Taree on July 27.

Similar to Spritza Seritza, Ciccina races from off the pace.

All That Sass, who tends to run closer to the front, is winless in four starts since a victory in a handicap against fillies and mares at seven furlongs in February, her only win in 10 starts.

This is the third start of the month for All That Sass, who was fourth by three lengths in a handicap for fillies and mares on good turf at Kembla Grange on Aug. 1, and fourth by 6 3/4 lengths in a seven-furlong handicap against open company on soft turf at Goulburn on Aug. 9.

The turf course condition is expected to be good at Scone for this race, which may be a better fit for All That Sass.

Scone has an eight-race program that begins at 10:45 p.m. Eastern, or 7:45 p.m. Pacific, on Monday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
