Australia: Song of Sangio will try to remain unbeaten in handicap at Goulburn
The undefeated gelding Son of Sangio will make his third career start in a handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs at Goulburn Racecourse in Australia on Friday, the longest race of his brief career.
Trained by Richard and Michael Freedman, the 3-year-old Son of Sangio won a maiden race at 5 1/2 furlongs from off the pace at Bathurst Racecourse in January and a handicap at six furlongs from the front at Newcastle on Feb. 22.
Son of Sangio’s apparent adaptability may be an asset at Goulburn, where the gelding is part of a field of eight that includes an apparent fron-trunner in Zelady Luck, also a well-regarded contender.
Son of Sangio was the 5-4 favorite in early betting on Wednesday. From post 7, jockey Keagan Latham could have Son of Sangio in a stalking position behind Zelady Luck, who starts from post 4. Latham was aboard Son of Sangio for the maiden win.

Zelady Luck, trained by Adrian Bott and Gai Waterhouse, has had two starts, winning a maiden race at Goulburn last August, but finishing only seventh of nine in her comeback in a six-furlong handicap for fillies and mares at Newcastle on March 4 after setting the pace.
Zelady Luck may not have been suited to the heavy turf course. The Goulburn course is expected to be rated as good.
Of the others, Byron, a winner of 3 of 7 starts, will start over a shorter distance than his previous race, a seventh of nine in a seven-furlong handicap at Newcastle on Feb. 5. Earlier this year, Byron won a handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs at Newcastle in January in his first start in more than six weeks. Byron is a closer who must overcome a rail start.
Goulburn has an eight-race program beginning at 10:10 p.m. Eastern or 7:10 p.m. Pacific on Thursday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
