Australia: Sirileo Miss on the rise in Sandown handicap
Sirileo Miss will be favored to win her second start of 2021 in a minor handicap for fillies and mares at seven furlongs on Monday at Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne, Australia.
Judging from her record of two wins in her first three starts, Sirileo Miss could be on a career ascension that will lead to starts in group-level stakes in coming months.
Trained by Symon Wilde, Sirileo Miss won a handicap for 3-year-old Southern Hemisphere fillies on March 24 at Sandown in her first start since November. Sirileo Miss was ridden by apprentice jockey Melissa Julius and closed from sixth in a field of nine to win by a convincing 2 1/4 lengths.
On Monday, Julius is back aboard Sirileo Miss who is part of a field of 11 in the sixth race on an eight-race program that begins at 11 p.m. Eastern, or 8 p.m. Pacific, on Sunday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
Sirileo Miss won her debut at Bendigo on Nov. 11 in a seven-furlong maiden race for 3-year-old fillies and was second by a head in the Stockade Stakes at seven furlongs for 3-year-old fillies bred in the Australian state of Victoria on Nov. 21.

Boom Dot Com is the most significant threat to Sirileo Miss, who closes from off the pace. Boom Dot Com has a similar style, which resulted in consecutive wins in seven-furlong handicaps against males at Launceston Racecourse in Tasmania on March 17 and March 24. Sandown Racecourse typically has tougher fields than Launceston.
The race marks a class drop for the 6-year-old mare Zabelarina, who was third against a tougher group in a six-furlong handicap at Moonee Valley Racecourse on March 17. Zabelarina has won 5 of 17 starts, but is winless in five starts since June. The recent race was Zabelarina’s first start since a last-place finish in a field of 10 on Jan. 2 at Caulfield.
