Australia: The Seven Seas can post minor upset over Atmospheric Rock
The Seven Seas was an odds-on favorite when she won a maiden race at Bathurst Racecourse in Australia in her seventh career start on Jan. 24.
She can play the role of spoiler for Atmospheric Rock, a gelding held in high regard, in a six-furlong handicap at Goulburn Racecourse on Wednesday evening.
Atmospheric Rock was the 4-5 favorite in early betting on Tuesday, while The Seven Seas was the 3-1 second choice. A 1-2 finish from the pair is possible, depending on whether Atmospheric Rock can be effective from off the pace in his first start mid-November.
The Seven Seas, who is trained by John Sargent, tends to race from a tracking position, and will have first run on Atmospheric Rock in a field of 11 at Goulburn. In the Jan. 24 race, The Seven Seas closed from third to win a race for fillies and mares at 5 1/2 furlongs by two lengths in her first start since early September. She is one of five fillies and mares in this field.
Atmospheric Rock is trained at Goulburn by Danny Michaels, and won a six-furlong maiden race on the course in October in his second start. Atmospheric Rock was later second in two handicaps in an eight-day span in November, when he ran most recently. He closed from 10th in a field of 16 with a wide rally to lose by a half-length Nov. 19 in a seven-furlong handicap at Kembla Grange, his latest race .

Maresca and Star of Mattner are likely to set the pace, which will help the stalking style of The Seven Seas and a closer such as Atmospheric Rock.
