Australia: September Run goes for third Grade 1 win in Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville
The Australian filly September Run won three consecutive stakes in September and October of 2020, culminating in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.
As impressive as she was that season, the 2021 year was a bust, with nine losses in stakes.
The 2022 season has been better for September Run. After winning the Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley Racecourse in Melbourne on March 25 at 16-1, September Run is a slight favorite to garner her third Group 1 victory in Saturday’s $356,095 Robert Sangster Stakes for fillies and mares at six furlongs at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide.

September Run, the mount of Craig Williams for trainer Chris Waller, drew post 5 in a field of 15 in the Sangster Stakes. She tends to run as a stalker. In the Reid Stakes, September Run used that style to win by a length over the heavily favored Marabi, who was beaten for the first time in her eighth start.
September Run’s main rivals in the Sangster are the 4-year-old fillies Bella Nipotina and Away Game.
Bella Nipotina is winless in five Group 1 races, including a game second by a head in the Manikato Stakes at six furlongs at Moonee Valley last October. In a more encouraging performance, Bella Nipotina ended a five-race losing streak with a neck win in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes for fillies and mares at six furlongs at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney on April 9.
Away Game was seventh of 14 in the Group 1 Galaxy Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs at Rosehill Gardens on March 19, a disappointment considering she was second by a half-length to Marabi in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at 5 ½ furlongs at Caulfield in February.
This is the Group 1 debut for the talented Southern Hemisphere 3-year-old Argentia, who has won 2 of 5 starts. She was a Group 3 winner at six furlongs in February in her graded stakes debut and more recently second as the favorite in Group 2 races at seven furlongs and a mile.
Morphettville has a nine-race program beginning at 10:17 p.m. Eastern or 7:17 p.m. Pacific on Friday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
