Australia: Salisano may have advantage in Monday six-furlong handicap
The 4-year-old filly Salisano is part of a contentious handicap at Newcastle Racecourse in Australia on Monday evening. In a race without a strong favorite, Salisano may have a slight weight advantage over some of her main rivals in the six-furlong race.
Salisano has won 3 of 4 starts in a career that began in January, less experience than other contenders such as Cholante, Resistible, and Toronomica.
Salisano, who starts from the rail and is quick enough to lead, will carry 127.8 pounds, compared to Toronomica at 135.5, Resistable at 129, and Cholante at 126.7.
This will be Salisano’s second start following a seven-month layoff. Salisano finished fifth of seven in a six-furlong handicap at Mudgee in February, and won her comeback in a six-furlong handicap at 50-1 at Newcastle on Sept. 30 when she set the pace.

Salisano has won twice by leading throughout, and once from a stalking position.
Cholante gained the role of favorite at 7-2 on Sunday, having been 9-2 on Saturday behind 4-1 Resistable.
Cholante has not raced since she finished third by a nose in a much tougher handicap on the infield Kensington course at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney in March in her seventh start.
In recent weeks, Cholante has finished third and first in two schooling races at 4 1/2 furlongs at Rosehill Gardens.
Cholante runs from off the pace, while Resistable and Toronomica are fast enough to lead.
Resistable, a winner of 2 of 11 starts, finished third in her last start, a one-mile handicap at Randwick for Southern Hemisphere 3- and 4-year-olds on June. A 4-year-old filly, Resistable won her career debut in a six-furlong maiden race at Newcastle in June 2022, leading throughout.
She figures to be a major factor in this field from the front.
Newcastle has an eight-race program beginning at 10:15 p.m. Eastern or 7:15 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
