Safaris returned from a 25-month layoff to win a five-furlong handicap at odds of 7-2 at Tamworth Racecourse in Australia on Jan. 30. To prove that was not a fluke in any sense, Safaris returned to win a five-furlong handicap as the 4-5 favorite at Scone on Feb. 16. Trained by Rodney Ollerton, Safaris has always been a sprinter. On Tuesday at Wyong Racecourse, Safaris will start in another sprint handicap, but at the longer distance of 6 3/4 furlongs. In a way, the longer sprint will be a test. In his 12-race career, Safaris is winless in three starts at 6 1/2 furlongs, including a second-place finish at Scone in December 2018, his final start before the lengthy break. A 5-year-old gelding, Safaris is part of a field of 12 and will be ridden for the first time by Christian Reith. Safaris is likely to race near the front. :: Get free past performances, analysis, and picks for Australian racing Provide, a 3-year-old filly, may also race near the front, having led throughout a maiden race at seven furlongs at Newcastle Racecourse on Feb. 20 in her sixth career start. The race at Wyong is Provide’s first start against winners. An early target would be beneficial for Isorich and Ocean Go, who tend to race from well off the pace. Isorich is a fascinating horse, a 10-year-old gelding who has won 14 of 127 starts in a career that began in 2013. Isorich is winless in 14 starts since April, but has faced tougher company in recent races. Ocean Go, who will be fitted with blinkers for Tuesday’s race, was seventh in a tougher handicap at seven furlongs at Royal Randwick on Nov. 3 in his most recent race. Ocean Go won his only previous appearance at Wyong, in a handicap at 6 3/4 furlongs in December 2019. The featured handicap is the seventh race on an eight-race program that begins at 9:15 p.m. Eastern, or 6:15 p.m. Pacific, on Monday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
