Australia: Revenire, Jemadar, Dalon meet again with much at stake

Steve Andersen|Dec 20, 2020

On Dec. 12, Revenire, Jemadar and Dalon swept the first three positions in a six-furlong handicap at Townsville Racecourse in Australia, with Revenire winning by a head and Dalon beaten only 1 1/2 lengths.

Those three are part of a field of 10 in a six-furlong handicap at Townsville on Tuesday with more at stake. Tuesday’s race is a qualifier for the $190,500 Magic Millions Country Cup at six furlongs at Gold Coast Racecourse on Jan. 9. It’s possible the trio could meet a third time in a little more than a month in that race.

Dalon was the 6-5 favorite on Dec. 12, but Revenire may be the choice Tuesday. Trained by Carl Spry, Revenire has not been worse than third in four starts since the first of November, including a second and third in handicaps at Townsville in late November.

Revenire tends to run as a closer and will be in pursuit of Dalon, who races as a stalker. Revenire closed from last in a field of seven on Dec. 12.

Langhro, an 8-year-old Australian-bred gelding, is likely to set the pace. The 134.4-pound topweight on Tuesday, Langhro ended a three-race losing streak with a front-running win by 3 1/2 lengths in a handicap at Cairns Racecourse on Dec. 3.

Jemadar is winless in five career starts at Townsville, but ran well enough to win on Dec. 12. A 7-year-old gelding, Jemadar won a minor handicap at 5 1/2 furlongs at Innisfail Racecourse in November for his seventh win. Jemadar has had 38 starts.

Tuesday’s race is a drop in class for Tambo’s Heart, who was eighth in a handicap at a mile at Townsville on Nov. 28. Tambo’s Heart, who can lead or stalk the pace, won three lesser handicaps in consecutive starts at Cairns and Innisfair from late September to early November at distances ranging from six furlongs to 7 1/2 furlongs.

The handicap is the seventh race on an eight-race program that begins at 10:34 p.m. Eastern, or 7:34 p.m. Pacific, on Monday. Wagering and viewing is available through DRFBets.com.
