Australia: Parliament seeks third straight win

Steve Andersen|Jun 13, 2020

The 5-year-old Australian-bred gelding Parliament has provided much needed success for trainer Andrew Dale in the last six weeks.

Parliament won consecutive starts on May 10 and May 21, the stable’s only winners since April 18. Monday, Parliament is back in the starting gate in a one-mile handicap at Albury Racecourse.

A winner of 7 of 22 starts in his career, Parliament is the 127.8-pound topweight in a field of 11. Blaike McDougall, who won aboard Parliament in 2019, has the mount.

Parliament’s recent wins ended a seven-race losing streak for the veteran. In both victories at Wagga Wagga Racecourse, he stalked the pace. He won by a half-length in a race at 1 1/8 miles on May 10 and by two lengths as the 2-5 favorite in a one-mile handicap on May 20.

Parliament may be a strong favorite in Monday’s race, the fourth of seven at Albury. First post time is 10:35 p.m. Eastern, or 7:35 p.m. Pacific, on Sunday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.

None of the other runners won their last start.

Dale also runs Suburbia, who has been second or third in his last four starts, losing by a combined 4 1/2 lengths. Suburbia was beaten 1 1/2 lengths when second in a one-mile handicap at Albury on May 15, closing from seventh in a field of nine.

Jockey Tyler Schiller rode Suburbia that day and has the mount on Monday. Interestingly, Schiller was aboard Parliament for his two recent wins. McDougall was the last rider to win aboard Suburbia, in a seven-furlong handicap at Berrigan Racecourse in March.

Suburbia will carry 121 pounds, the same assignment as Boogie Woogie and Willy White Socks.

This will be the 90th start for Willy White Socks, a 7-year-old gelding with 11 career wins. Winless in his last seven starts, Willy White Socks has been third in his last two races.

Boogie Woogie won a one-mile handicap at Albury in April and has since finished second, fifth and second. Boogie Woogie makes a fast turnaround from a loss by about a neck at Corowa Racecourse on Tuesday.
