Australia: Maiden winner Royal Inheritance fits in competitive handicap
Six races into her career, the Australian filly Regal Inheritance beat maidens in a seven-furlong race at Canberra Racecourse on March 13.
The momentum from that win may boost Regal Inheritance in a tricky handicap for non-winners of two at a mile at Wyong Racecourse on Wednesday evening.
The race drew a field off 11, and six of the runners were 5-1 or less in early betting with Australian bookmakers as of Tuesday, including Regal Inheritance at an interesting 5-1.
Regal Inheritance, trained by Gary Portelli, tends to run from a stalking position and is well drawn for that style in post 5. Regal Inheritance will start at a mile for the first time, a distance that should fit her running style.

Street Gossip, another filly facing males at Wyong, won her debut in a six-furlong race in October, but is winless in her last four starts. Street Gossip, the 2-1 favorite in early betting, was fifth in her last start in a seven-furlong handicap for Southern Hemisphere 3-year-olds on the infield Kensington course at Royal Randwick Racecourse on March 22, closing from sixth to lose by 2 1/2 lengths.
Street Gossip will race at a mile for the first time, and is a danger from off the pace.
The 4-year-old gelding By Nine has a closing style that will command attention. By Nine, who was 9-2 on Tuesday, beat maidens in his fifth start last May, but did not race again until January of this year. In three starts in 2023, By Nine’s best result has been a second in his most recent race, a handicap at 7 1/2 furlongs at Hawkesbury Racecourse on March 14 in which he was beaten slightly more than a length.
Wyong has an eight-race program beginning at 10:50 p.m. Eastern or 7:50 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
