Australia: Kissing Supido one to catch in Muswellbrook handicap

The speedy gelding Kissing Supido may prove impossible to catch in a five-furlong handicap at Muswellbrook Racecourse in Australia on Sunday evening.

Kissing Supido was beaten in his first six starts before he led throughout a six-furlong maiden race at Port Macquarie on June 18. A Southern Hemisphere 3-year-old, Kissing Supido had been third in his two preceding starts at five furlongs, losing by 1 1/2 lengths at Gosford on May 25 and by 1 3/4 lengths at Hawkesbury on June 11.

At Muswellbrook, Kissing Supido is part of a field of 11. The longshots Island Lass and Forbidden Gemstone have shown speed, but have not been able to sustain the momentum.

Of the two, Forbidden Gemstone is a greater threat to Kissing Supido. Forbidden Kingdom was fifth by three lengths in a handicap at 4 1/2 furlongs at Scone on June 13 after setting the early pace.

Of greater threats to Kissing Supido are the stalkers Tennagain and Master of Rewards.

Tennagain, winless in five starts, finished seventh in a field of nine in a five-furlong handicap at Muswellbrook on June 4, but was much brighter in his previous start when he finished third by 2 1/4 lengths in a five-furlong handicap at Tamworth on May 15 in his first start since January.

Master of Rewards, winless in 10 starts since June 2022, has not raced since he finished seventh of nine in a handicap at 1 3/16 miles at Canterbury Park in February.

While the Sunday evening race at Muswellbrook represents a drastic change in distance, Master of Rewards did beat maidens at six furlongs last year, his only win in 12 starts.
