Australia: Kings Full might finally have a winning hand at Horsham
Someone will have a losing streak end in Sunday’s Horsham Cup at Horsham Racecourse in Australia.
None of the 10 runners won their last starts, notably Kings Full, the expected 2-1 favorite who is winless in 14 starts in the last 18 months. But two second-place finishes in his most recent races gives Kings Full every chance to reverse that trend in the Horsham Cup at 1 5/16 miles.
The distance will be no issue. Kings Full was second by three-quarters of a length in a handicap at 1 1/2 miles at Mornington Racecourse on Sept. 26, and second by 2 1/4 lengths in the Hamilton Cup at 1 3/8 miles at Hamilton Racecourse on Oct. 9 as the 5-2 favorite.
Will Price was aboard for the races at Mornington and Hamilton and has the mount at Horsham. Kings Full can lead or stalk the pace and could have first run on a few prominent rivals in this extended trip.
Orleans Rock, winless in 10 starts over the last 18 months, closed well to finish fourth by 1 1/2 lengths in a one-mile handicap at Horsham on Oct. 9. The Horsham Cup was be Orleans Rock’s first start at 1 5/16 miles, although he was a good third in a lucrative handicap at 1 1/4 miles at Flemington Racecourse in August, once again closing from off the pace.
Kings Full and Orleans Rock will carry the minimum weight of 119 pounds, while another contender in Think We’re Due will carry topweight of 127.8 pounds.
