Australia: Kah poised to break record for wins in a season by a jockey at Melbourne-area tracks
Top Australian jockey Jamie Kah can make history at Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne on Wednesday.
Through Saturday, Kah had won 99 races this season at Melbourne city tracks such as Caulfield, Flemington, Moonee Valley and Sandow.
Kah is one winner behind Brett Prebble, who holds the record of 99.5 wins set in the 1999-2000 season at Melbourne city tracks. In Australia, a dead heat counts as half of a win.

The season runs from Aug. 1 to July 31, and Kah is expected to surpass Prebble’s record on Wednesday when she has mounts on all eight races on a Sandown program that begins at 10:25 p.m., Eastern, or 7:25 p.m., Pacific, on Tuesday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
Kah, 25, has more than 1,000 career wins, and was the leading rider at tracks in Adelaide earlier in her career, which began in 2012.
As of Monday, Kah’s mounts at Sandown ranged from 8-5 to 6-1 in early prices. The eight-race program has races at distances ranging from five furlongs to 1 1/8 miles.
Kah’s best chances are Murrumbidgee River in the second race, a handicap at 1 1/8 miles, and Write the Score in the third race, a handicap at a mile for 3-year-old fillies.
Murrumbidgee River will be favored in his first start on turf and first start against winners. Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Murrumbidgee River won a maiden race at 7 1/2 furlongs on the synthetic track at Ballarat on June 15, closing from 10th in a field of 11.
A 3-year-old gelding, Murrumbidgee River is part of a field of 11. His main rival is the 4-year-old filly Videmanette, who has won three of her last four starts in races ranging in distances from a mile to 1 1/8 miles.
Kah rode Write the Score to a win in a seven-furlong maiden race at Bendigo as the odds-on favorite on June 20. Write the Score will be a higher price in this race.
Always in Moment, who has won two of her last three starts, is a threat to Write the Score. Always in Moment won a handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs at Sandown on June 16, her first victory against winners and fourth start.
Always in Moment is expected to race near the front.
