The speedy colt Plagiarism is held in such regard in Australia that he may be favored as a maiden in Saturday’s $1.39 million Inglis Millennium Stakes for Southern Hemisphere 2-year-olds at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney. The race could produce starters for the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes for Southern Hemisphere 2-year-olds at six furlongs on March 21. The $3.24 million Golden Slipper is the world’s richest race for 2-year-olds. Plagiarism, trained by Adrian Bott and Gai Waterhouse, was third in his lone start, the Group 3 Golden Gift Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney on Nov. 8. Plagiarism may not face much pressure aside from Where’s The Circus, a filly who led throughout the Inglis Nursery at five furlongs at Randwick on Dec. 13. The Inglis Millennium and Nursery Stakes are sales-progeny races. Of the nine winners in the main field for the Inglis Millennium, Fireball will have the most support. Trained by Chris Waller, Fireball won his lone start in a minor handicap at 5 1/2 furlongs at Rosehill Gardens on Nov. 29, closing from fourth of nine to win by a length. He starts from post 3 in Saturday’s race, which has a post time of midnight Eastern or 9 p.m. Pacific on Friday. The filly Calamari Ring is likely to race from slightly off the pace.
