Australia: Heritage Sash tries to end losing skid in Doomben handicap
Heritage Sash will have his third start following a four-month layoff in a six-furlong handicap at Doomben, Australia, on Wednesday, a race that provides the gelding an excellent chance to end a seven-race losing streak.
Heritage Sash is winless since winning a six-furlong handicap at Gold Coast Racecourse in May. Since returning to action in November, Heritage Sash has finished fifth of seven in a six-furlong handicap at Ipswich Racecourse on Nov. 11, and a much better second by about a half-length in a six-furlong handicap at Doomben on Dec. 11.

Trained by Toby and Trent Edmonds, Heritage Sash has had four career starts at Doomben, finishing second or third in each race. Heritage Sash, who can lead or stalk the pace, has won 3 of 17 starts and finished second or third in 11 other races, a remarkably consistent record.
Wednesday’s handicap drew a full field of 12.
The topweight at 134.4 pounds is No Doubt Acracker, who won for the seventh time in her 28-race career in a seven-furlong handicap at Rockhampton Racecourse on Dec. 18. The win ended a six-race losing streak. A 5-year-old Southern Hemisphere mare, No Doubt Acracker is winless in five career starts at Doomben. She was 12th of 14 in a handicap there at 6 3/4 furlongs on Oct. 31, although that was against a field much tougher than Wednesday’s competition.
Heritage Sash will carry 127.8 pounds.
Reus, who will carry 130 pounds, will start from the rail in his first start since a fourth-place finish in a one-mile handicap at Doomben in August. Reus has won 3 of 10 starts in his career, including handicaps at seven furlongs and a mile at Gold Coast and Grafton in June and July.
Reus has not started at six furlongs since a win in a maiden race at Ipswich in May in his first start since September 2019, an indication he can race well after a layoff.
Doomben has an eight-race program beginning at 10:05 p.m., Eastern, or 7:05 p.m., Pacific, on Tuesday. Wagering and viewing is available through DRFBets.com.
