Australia: Harlow Mist can show she's for real in Monday allowance
The filly Harlow Mist scored an 8-1 upset when she stormed through the stretch at Goulburn Racecourse in Australia on Aug. 14 to win her debut in a seven-furlong maiden race.
On Monday evening at Scone Racecourse, Harlow Mist can prove that race was not a fluke when she starts against multiple winners in a one-mile allowance race.
Trained by John Sargent, Harlow Mist will be ridden by Reece Jones, who was aboard for the recent maiden race win. Harlow Mist is part of a field of 11 and may be a slight favorite over Velvet Lady, a winner of 2 of 15 starts.
Velvet Lady, who will carry topweight of 134.4 pounds, has not raced since she finished seventh in a handicap against a slightly higher class of runners at 1 5/16 miles at Wyong Racecourse in January.

Velvet Lady is winless in seven starts since a handicap at 1 5/16 miles at Scone in April 2022. She raced without success in two Group 1 and Group 2 races in April and May 2022.
Interestingly, Velvet Lady has won at 1 1/4 miles and 1 5/16 miles. Earlier in her career, she was a game second in a one-mile handicap at Tamworth, giving her a good chance for another win at Scone.
Harlow Mist, who will carry 125.6 pounds, and Velvet Lady are part of a field of 11 that includes Eve ‘N’ Ruby (133) and Bandolero (121).
Eve ‘N’ Ruby has been third in her last two starts in handicaps at 1 1/8 miles since late July. She can be a factor from off the pace.
Bandolero won a one-mile handicap at Mudgee in May, but has been beaten in her last three starts. Bandolero was fifth by slightly less than two lengths in a handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs at Scone on Aug. 21, closing from eighth in a field of 10.
Scone has an eight-race program beginning at 11 p.m. Eastern or 8 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
