Australia: Glassey Miss looks to rebound in handicap at Swan Hill

Steve Andersen|Feb 14, 2021

Glassey Miss had the best span of her three-season career from late June to New Year’s Eve in Australia, winning three of five starts. During that span, Glassey Miss won handicaps at six furlongs once and at seven furlongs twice.

Glassey Miss was fifth of 11 in a handicap at Moonee Valley Racecourse in Melbourne on Jan 15 in her lone start this year. Despite the setback, Glassey Miss looks well placed in a handicap at a mile at Swan Hill Racecourse, well north of Melbourne, on Tuesday.

Swan Hill is new territory for Glassey Miss, who has won 4 of 11 starts in a career that began in October 2019. Glassey Miss won her debut, but was beaten in her next four starts.

Trained by Symon Wilde, Glassey Miss races as a stalker and there should be a pace to follow in the Swan Hill race from outsiders such as Hunamosa and Wardy Boy.

Bill the Bee, who also races as a stalker, could be well placed in what will be his fourth start of the year. Bill the Bee had three races in January, highlighted by a win in a seven-furlong handicap at Wangaratta Racecourse.

Bill the Bee ended January with a seventh in a one-mile handicap at Morphettville Racecourse on Jan. 20, losing by four lengths as the 2-1 favorite.

The one-mile handicap at Swan Hill will have a field of 14. Okotoks and Wardy Boy are the only runners with a win at Swan Hill.

Okotoks is rated to have a better chance than Wardy Boy. Trained at Swan Hill by Nathan Hobson, Okotoks is winless in eight starts since a one-mile handicap at Swan Hill in September. Okotoks will have his 2021 debut on Tuesday after a busy 2020 season in which he won 2 of 20 starts, beginning the campaign in March.

Swan Hill has an eight-race program beginning at 9:30 p.m., Eastern, or 6:30 p.m., Pacific, on Monday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.

There is racing at Goulburn Racecourse on Tuesday, which has gained added significance following the cancellation of Sunday’s program at Nowra.

The $116,370 Newhaven Park Country Championship qualifier has been added to the program. The handicap is part of a series of qualifying races at tracks throughout the state of New South Wales for the $387,850 Country Championship final at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney on April 3. The first two finishes in each division advance to the final.

At Goulburn, Art Cadeau, never worse than second in nine starts, will be favored in a field of 14.
