Australia: Get the Idea a contender in Wednesday feature at Warwick Farm

Get the Idea was beaten less than a half-length when he finished third in a handicap at Warwick Farm Racecourse in Australia on Dec. 23. The result was better than it looked.

Get the Idea, who was 18-1, stalked favored Foxborough, who had an uncontested lead, and closed well on the rail.

Wednesday at Warwick Farm, Get the Idea starts in a similar race, but one that does not include Foxborough. The Dec. 23 race was run on soft turf, and heavy conditions are likely on Wednesday.

The race drew a field of 10 and is the sixth race on a seven-race program that begins at 10:20 p.m., Eastern, or 7:20 p.m., Pacific, on Tuesday. Wagering and viewing is available through DRFBets.com.

Get the Idea, trained by John Sargent, has won 4 of 12 starts, but is winless in his last five races. Get the Idea won consecutive handicaps in September – at seven furlongs at Hawkesbury on Sept. 10 and a one-mile race at Kembla Grange on Sept. 26.

Get the Idea shares top weight of 131 pounds in Wednesday’s race with expected favorite Night of Power, an Irish-bred who has won four times in a 20-race career.

Night of Power is winless in nine starts since last January. He finished second in a seven-furlong handicap at Kembla Grange on Nov. 21, and sixth of 10 in a handicap at 7 3/4 furlongs at Canterbury Park on Dec. 11.

In the latter race, Night of Power was beaten 3 1/4 lengths after stalking the pace for the first five furlongs.

Night of Power is likely to have a stalking trip in Wednesday’s race, and could be positioned near Get the Idea, who has a similar style.
