Australia: Floozie brings win streak into Group 1 debut in Tattersall’s Tiara

Steve Andersen|Jun 26, 2025

A stable change earlier this year has revitalized the career of the 4-year-old New Zealand-bred filly Floozie, who has her Group 1 debut in Friday’s $458,700 Tattersall’s Tiara at seven furlongs at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Brisbane, Australia.

Floozie has won her last four starts, including three races at Eagle Farm, all since being transferred to Eagle Farm-based trainer Tony Gollan.

At Eagle Farm, Floozie’s winning streak consists of two minor handicaps at six furlongs in April and May, and the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs on June 14. She also won the Silk Stocking Stakes at six furlongs at nearby Gold Coast Racecourse in May. All four of the recent wins were in races for fillies and mares.

In each of the wins, Floozie has closed from a stalking position.

In the Tattersall’s Tiara for fillies and mares, Floozie will be ridden by her regular rider, Angela Jones, and starts from post 9 in a full field of 17.

The Tattersall’s Tiara is the final Group 1 race of the current Australian season, which ends on July 31. The next Group 1 race in the country is in early August in Sydney.

Floozie, a winner of 6 of 14 starts in her career, was the 7-2 second choice in early betting on Thursday behind 3-1 Firestorm who was third in the Dane Ripper Stakes. Trained by Chris Waller, Firestorm overcame a troubled start to finish slightly more than 1 1/2 lengths behind Floozie in the Dane Ripper.

Earlier this year, Firestorm won the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney and was second in the Group 1 Coolmore Stakes to the highly-rated Lady Shenandoah at 7 1/2 furlongs at Rosehill Gardens.

Firestorm races from off the pace. The closer to watch in the Tattersall’s Tiara is Tashi, who rallied from 11th of 14 to be second by a half-length in the Dane Ripper Stakes.

The Tattersall’s Tiara is part of a nine-race program that begins at 9:43 p.m. Eastern or 6:43 p.m. Pacific.
