Australia: Far Too Easy tries to stay perfect at Grafton

Steve Andersen|Jul 10, 2023

The Australian gelding Far Too Easy is undefeated in three starts at Grafton Racecourse, part of a successful career that includes seven wins in 16 starts and a second-place finish in a restricted $1.23 million sprint at Royal Randwick Racecourse last October.

A perfect record at Grafton boosts Far Too Easy’s chances for his first career stakes win in the $133,400 Ramornie Handicap at six furlongs at the countryside venue on Tuesday evening.

Trained by David McColm, Far Too Easy was second in the Group 2 Moreton Cup at six furlongs at Eagle Farm Racecourse in his last start on June 3, beaten 2 2/3 lengths by Prince of Boom, who followed with a win in a Group 3 sprint on June 24.

Far Too Easy has won once in three starts this year, in a handicap at 5 1/2 furlongs at Doomben in April in his first start of the year.

In the Ramornie Handicap, Far Too Easy is part of a competitive field of 16 and is likely to be the second choice in the betting behind Deepour, who has won five of his last six starts since late December.

Deepour won four races from late December to early March in sprints, a winning streak that ended with a third by 2 1/2 lengths in the listed Lightning Handicap at five furlongs at Eagle Farm Racecourse on June 3. Deepour closed strongly in the final furlong in his first start in three months in the Lightning Handicap.

Deepour rebounded to win a lucrative handicap at 5 1/2 furlongs at Ipswich Racecourse on June 17, showing his customary closing style.

The Ramornie field includes The Big Goodbye, a 5-year-old gelding who was second by slightly more than two lengths to Prince of Boom in the Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm on June 24.

Grafton has an eight-race program beginning at 10:29 p.m. Eastern or 7:29 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
