Australia: Dynamic Thinker seeks overdue win at Ipswich

Dynamic Thinker was unlucky not to win for a second time in his career last November and December in the weeks following a victory in a maiden race at Gold Coast Racecourse in Australia.

Dynamic Thinker was beaten a nose on Nov. 21 and by a head on Dec. 21 before finishing last of 10 at 100-1 in the Group 3 Rogue Stakes at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Dec. 28. He was rested through the Australian summer and early fall leading to a comeback on Monday in a minor handicap at Ipswich Racecourse southwest of Brisbane.

Trained by Les Kelly, Dynamic Thinker will have his sixth start in the six-furlong handicap, which will have a maximum field of 13 runners.

A 3-year-old Southern Hemisphere gelding by So You Think, Dynamic Thinker will be ridden for the first time by Michael Cahill, who had won with two of his last 20 mounts through Friday.

Dynamic Thinker will carry top weight of 132 pounds, an understandable assignment considering the near-misses in handicaps last November and December.

Dynamic Thinker tends to run near the front and could be joined in that position by the 4-year-old filly Bay of Dragons who won a maiden race at 4 1/2 furlongs at Gold Coast on April 21 in her seventh start. Bay of Dragons was a close second in two maiden races at 5 1/4 furlongs in March after leading to the final strides.

The seven-race Ipswich program begins at 10:57 p.m. Eastern, or 7:57 p.m. Pacific, on Sunday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.

The course and distance should work in favor of Broncks, who has not raced since December. Last October, Broncks won a maiden race at 6 3/4 furlongs at Ipswich from a stalking position. He was winless in four subsequent starts, but did finish second by three-quarters of a length in a seven-furlong handicap at Gold Coast in December.

A quick pace on Monday could work in favor of Broncks, who will carry 128 pounds.
