Australia; Dubai Tycoon looks for first win of the year in Beef Week Cup
The seven-furlong specialist Dubai Tycoon should be well-positioned to win for the first time this year in the Beef Week Cup at that distance at Lismore Racecourse in Australia on Thursday evening.
Dubai Tycoon finished a fast-closing second in a six-furlong handicap at Sunshine Coast Racecourse on May 14 in his first start since October. Dubai Tycoon closed from last of nine to miss by a head at 19-1.
In the Beef Week Cup, Dubai Tycoon figures to be around 7-1 in a competitive race led by 9-2 Macchina Volante. The Beef Week Cup will have a full field of 14 and is part of an eight-race program at Lismore that begins at 10:15 p.m. Eastern or 7:15 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
With a large field, Dubai Tycoon should do well from his closing position under jockey Jake Bayliss, who was aboard for the recent loss at Sunshine Coast. A 7-year-old gelding, Dubai Tycoon has won 8 of 33 starts. He has won twice at 5 1/2 furlongs and three times each at six and seven furlongs.

None of the runners in the Beef Week Cup field won their last starts, making the second-place finish by Dubai Tycoon more attractive.
Macchina Volante was a mild favorite in early betting on Wednesday. A winner of 7 of 27 starts, Macchina Volante has won twice in three career starts at Lismore, with both wins at 1 5/16 miles.
In his last start, Macchina Volante finished sixth of 11 in the Bairnsdale Cup at a mile at Bairnsdale Racecourse on March 26, losing by slightly more than 2 3/4 lengths.
Macchina Volante is winless in eight starts since the Lismore Cup at 1 5/16 miles in September 2021. Macchina Volante was a good second by 1 ¼ lengths in a handicap at 7 1/2 furlongs at Port Macquarie last June.
