Australia: Dubai Night looks to snap losing streak as high weight in handicap at Lismore

Steve Andersen|Jul 19, 2023

A high weight assignment and a seven-race losing streak will prevent some bettors from supporting Dubai Nights in a six-furlong handicap at Lismore Racecourse in Australia on Thursday evening.

But a troubled trip last month, and an expected pace to follow at Lismore, can help Dubai Nights win for the second time in his ninth start in a race restricted to colts, gelding and horses.

Dubai Nights was fourth by slightly less than two lengths in a handicap at 5 1/2 furlongs at Murwillumbah June 25. Dubai Night raced in traffic on the turn and rallied wide from about six lengths off the pace in his first start for current trainer Stewart Campbell and first race since March.

At Lismore, Dubai Nights will share topweight of 134.4 pounds with another contender in Iobject. The Lismore race drew a field of 10 and is part of a nine-race program beginning at 9:45 p.m. Eastern or 6:45 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.

Iobject is winless in four starts since a six-furlong handicap at Port Macquarie in January. Fourth in his last start in a handicap at 5 1/2 furlongs at Grafton on July 12, Iobject is quick enough to be part of the pace.

Iobject may have early company from Stoinka, who won a maiden race at Lismore last August and followed two races later with a win in a handicap at 6 3/4 furlongs at Ipswich last October.

Stoinka, who will carry 133 pounds, is winless in his last 10 starts, including a half-length loss in a seven-furlong handicap at Lismore in May. This race at Lismore will be Stoinka’s eighth start of the year. He was seventh by 3 1/3 lengths in a seven-furlong handicap at Grafton on July 2, missing third by two lengths.

As of early Wednesday, Dubai Night was a 7-1 outsider, while Iobject and Stoinka were the 3-1 joint favorites.
