Australia: Dorothy of Oz back at suitable level at Royal Randwick on Wednesday
Dorothy of Oz is being given a career reboot in a handicap for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs at Royal Randwick in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday.
Earlier this year, Dorothy of Oz was unsuccessful in three group races, the last of which was a 13th in a field of 14 in the Group 1 ATC Oaks at 1 1/2 miles at Randwick on April 11. A 4-year-old Australian-bred filly, Dorothy of Oz has won 2 of 10 starts with the victories in a maiden race at 5 1/2 furlongs last October and a handicap at a mile last November.
Those results make Dorothy of Oz attractive in Wednesday’s. Trained by Adrian Bott and Gai Waterhouse, Dorothy of Oz will be ridden for the first time by Brendon Avdulla. Dorothy of Oz will carry 129 pounds, slightly fewer than joint topweights California Salto and Sky Call at 131 pounds.

The handicap is the sixth race on a nine-race program that begins at midnight, Eastern, on Wednesday, or 9 p.m., Pacific, on Tuesday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com. Wednesday’s program at Randwick is run on the inner Kensington course.
California Salto has won 2 of 12 starts and returns to racing on Wednesday for the first time since a last-place finish of 14 in the Group 2 The Roses Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/8 miles at Eagle Farm in June.
California Salto won two sprints in 2019. Now 4, California Salto won a handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs last October in her first start in four months, conditions similar to her return to racing on Wednesday.
There are three 3-year-old fillies among the entries, including the probable favorite in Zero to Hundred, who is trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou.
Zero to Hundred won her debut in a maiden race at 5 1/2 furlongs at Warwick Farm on June 17 and was second by a nose as the 9-2 co-favorite in the Tattersall’s Cup Stakes for Southern Hemisphere 2-year-olds at seven furlongs at Eagle Farm on July 4.
Zero to Hundred, who will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, will carry 125.6 pounds in her handicap debut.
