Australia: Anagain favored to end losing streak at Warwick Farm
Twice in the last five weeks, the filly Anagain has rallied from off the pace to finish second or third in a six-furlong handicap, losing each race by less than two lengths.
Those losses have extended Anagain’s losing streak to 14 races, since she beat maidens in her debut in March 2021. The losses have not discouraged bettors from making Anagain the early favorite to win a handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs at Warwick Farm Racecourse outside of Sydney on Tuesday evening.

Anagain was 8-5 in early betting on Monday to end the lengthy losing streak against 11 other fillies and mares. Trained by Joseph Pride, Anagain was fourth in her only start at Warwick Farm, in a seven-furlong handicap for fillies and mares in January. Typical of her style, Anagain closed from off the pace in that race and was beaten 1 1/2 lengths.
At Warwick Farm, Anagain will have a target in the filly Leandra, who won a maiden race at 6 1/2 furlongs at Hawkesbury Racecourse on May 18 in her fifth start. Leandra stalked the early pace and overcame traffic to win by a length.
The Warwick Farm race represents a slight drop in class for Pretty Wild, a winner of 2 of 8 starts, all for trainer Chris Waller, Australia’s leader in earnings.
Pretty Wild has finished ninth and seventh since late April in two high-profile handicaps on Saturday programs at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, and does not face as difficult of a field at Warwick Farm.
Pretty Wild runs from off the pace. She won twice at six furlongs in June and July of 2022 in that manner.
Warwick Farm has a seven-race program beginning at 10:50 p.m. Eastern or 7:50 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
