Audacious Chloe bags Little Silver at odds-on

Marcus Hersh|Jun 09, 2007

Not five minutes after winning the Grade 1 Acorn with Cotton Blossom at Belmont Park, Todd Pletcher captured the Little Silver Stakes at Monmouth Park with another 3-year-old filly, Audacious Chloe.

Audacious Chloe ($3.40), who surely has more major upcoming objectives, was the odds-on favorite in the Little Silver, a 1 1/16-mile grass race, and she got a perfect trip under Chris DeCarlo. As three horses stacked up on a solid early pace at the head of the backstretch, DeCarlo and Audacious Chloe drafted in behind, biding their time as the lead group went the opening half-mile in a quick 46.40 seconds. As second-choice Wine Diva crept up the inside approaching the stretch, DeCarlo swung out to find room, and once clear, Audacious Chloe was gone. Wine Diva's run was brief, and late-moving Cabbage Key easily beat her for second.

Earlier on the card, trainer Scott Lake did it again. Wildeyed Dreamer, claimed four races and less than three months ago for just $18,000, won his fourth consecutive start, capturing the Longfellow Stakes. Wildeyed Dreamer rallied from last under Chuck Lopez in a field reduced to five horses by Suave Jazz's scratch, just beating second-choice Wild Jam.

Slam Bammy, the favorite, appeared to break down and was pulled up when making a move for the lead at about the half-mile pole.

Wildeyed Dreamer won a conditioned claimer and two allowance races at Philadelphia Park, but this was much tougher. Lopez let Wildeyed Dreamer settle at the back of the field as John's Pic and Kazoo battled for the early lead. Wild Jam made an early move to reach contention, but it was Wildeyed Dreamer's late wide run that proved best. Wild Jam was easily second over Kazoo.
