Attfield thinking BC Juvenile Fillies Turf for My Gal Betty

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Following her runner-up finish to La Pelosa in the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes on Sept. 16, My Gal Betty is under consideration for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Churchill Downs on Nov. 2, trainer Roger Attfield said.
“We’re looking into it, anyway,” Attfield said. “Timing-wise it fits okay, so we’re sort of looking at that. I think she’s a pretty nice filly.”
If owner William K. Werner opts to point for the Breeders’ Cup, Attfield said My Gal Betty would most likely train up to the race.
“She’s not that robust a filly, so I don’t think she really needs one before that,” he said.
My Gal Betty has crossed the finish line first in three of her four starts, winning her maiden on May 20 and taking the the Catch a Glimpse Stakes on Aug. 25. In the July 7 My Dear Stakes, My Gal Betty was disqualified from the win position and placed third for interference in the stretch.
In the Natalma, My Gal Betty raced in midpack under jockey Rafael Hernandez and rallied into the stretch, but was just outkicked by La Pelosa.
Attfield said My Gal Betty came out of the Natalma in good order and resumed training last week.
“We’ve only just trained her back the last two or three days,” he said. “She’s come out of it beautiful.”
