ATBA Sales Futurity divisions different as can be
PHOENIX – Saturday’s two $35,000 ATBA Sales Futurities at Turf Paradise provide a couple different scenarios. The 2-year-old colt-and-gelding division is perplexing because there are just two winners in the field of eight, whereas monster trial winner Senoradiablo looms a prohibitive favorite in a field of 11 for the 2-year-old filly division.
The two races, both at six furlongs, are for juvenile Arizona-breds consigned to the 2017 ATBA fall sale. The colt-and-gelding division goes as race 6, the filly division as race 8.
Loud N Proud, trained by Kevin Eikleberry, won his only start, beating straight maidens June 29 at Prairie Meadows. But the son of Margie’s Wildcat hasn’t run since.
My Leap of Faith, trained by Jonathan Nance, is a two-time winner. The son of Top Hit beat maidens May 28 at Arapahoe. After a third in a stakes there Aug. 12, he easily won the Sweetwater Downs Futurity on Sept. 8 at Sweetwater Downs.
Road Romeo, a son of Cross Traffic trained by Dan McFarlane, may be a factor despite being a maiden as he comes off a rallying second against maiden claimers here Oct. 15.
Senoradiablo, a daughter of Flat Out, figures an overwhelming favorite in the filly division. She easily won her debut here April 14, then ran second against males in a stakes here May 6. She shipped to Emerald Downs and ran fourth in back-to-back stakes this summer. Senoradiablo returned here for trainer Manuel Ortiz and blasted allowance foes by 9 1/2 lengths Oct. 15.
Let Me Fly, trained by Eikleberry, could be her main threat. The daughter of Ez Dreamer dueled for the lead and drew off to easily beat allowance foes here Oct. 15.
