Assiniboia extends meet to Sept. 28
The Assiniboia Downs meet has been extended an extra day following a recent cancellation, and closing day will now be Wednesday, Sept. 28.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba, track had an unexpected malfunction with a small section of the track lighting following the first race on Sept. 14. As a result, the remainder of the race card was canceled. The issue has since been rectified.
“It was important for us to ensure that there were alternate opportunities for those horses to race” Assiniboia CEO Darren Dunn said. “Everyone wants to get another race in before the end of the season, and we fully anticipate full fields for the remaining programs. We are very thankful for the cooperation of the industry to make this happen.”
Racing resumed Monday.
The ASD Jackpot Pick 5 currently stands at a $435,563. If there isn’t a single winner before closing day, there will be another mandatory payout on closing day with a carryover that could be the largest in the track’s history. The Jackpot Hi-5 will be paid out on Tuesday. Sept. 27.
