Asserting Bear done for year

Tom Keyser Asserting Bear will miss the rest of the season with an injury.
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – After running third in the July 6 Queen’s Plate at Woodbine, Asserting Bear will miss the rest of the season with an injury.
“He came out of the race with bone bruising,” said trainer Reade Baker. “He got bumped pretty hard turning for home. By the time we get him back and straightened out, the Triple Crown would be over, and I don’t want to keep him in training running against older horses.”
Asserting Bear made five starts during his 3-year-old campaign, recording two third-place finishes. Despite crossing the line first in the Marine Stakes on May 25, Asserting Bear was disqualified and placed third for interfering with Ami’s Holiday in the stretch. His last win came in the Coronation Futurity in November.
