Assault Stakes highlights Stars of Texas Day
Lone Star Park has carded five stakes races for Saturday. The stakes, which are all restricted, make up the annual Stars of Texas Day.
The 11-race program starts at 2:05 p.m. Central.
The main event is the $75,000 Assault Stakes, a one-mile turf race for 3-year-olds and up bred in Texas that drew 11. Sunlit Song, who arguably is the state’s top turf horse, will meet fellow multiple stakes winners Direct Dial and Mr Money Bags. Each is coming off a win and holds a champion title from the Texas Thoroughbred Association.
The card Saturday also includes a pair of $100,000 divisions of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity. The colts and geldings side drew Tengo Mis Papeles, a blowout stakes winner earlier in the meet at Lone Star.
