Asmussen notches eighth Carousel win as Zeitlos holds off Backyard Money

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Zeitlos gave trainer Steve Asmussen his record eighth win in the Carousel at Oaklawn Park, when she overtook pacesetter Backyard Money for a 1 1/2-length win in the $150,000 race for fillies and mares.
It was another 1 1/2 lengths back in third to Mucho Macho Girl.
Zeitlos ($3.40) settled in about fifth as Backyard Money and I’m the Boss of Me raced through fractions of 22.37 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.02 for the half-mile. Zeitlos came between horses advancing on the turn, bid four wide into the stretch, and gradually moved past the leader to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:10.97.
Tyler Gaffalione was aboard for breeder Stonestreet Stable and Peter Liedel.

Asmussen first won the Carousel in 1998 with Little Sister. His subsequent winners have been Eternal Cup in 2004; Savorthetime (2005); Platinum Princess (2006); Vuitton (2013); Speedinthruthecity (2014); and Mia Mischief (2020).
Zeitlos (83 Beyer Speed Figure) won her third straight race and first in a stakes. She has compiled a career record of 4 for 10 for earnings of $419,085.
