Asmussen hearing rescheduled for September

Trainer Steve Asmussen has been granted a continuance by the Texas Racing Commission in a case stemming from a positive test for lidocaine in one of his horses at Lone Star Park, according to Karen Murphy, the New York attorney representing Asmussen.

Murphy said Thursday that a stewards hearing has been reset for Sept. 9 after having originally been scheduled for July 18. Murphy said she has not yet been availed to any of the science from a split sample tested by a Colorado laboratory despite having made an open-records request to the Texas commission on June 27.

Asmussen, the leading trainer in North America in wins and earnings in 2008 and trainer of Horse of the Year Curlin, was notified June 26 of the positive test taken from Timber Trick, winner of a May 10 maiden race at Lone Star.
