Asmussen, amid BC workers, also sends out budding juvenile Extra Anejo

LEXINGTON, Ky. - On a busy morning of Breeders' Cup works for trainer Steve Asmussen, he also sent Extra Anejo, an impressive debut winner at the Keeneland fall meet, to the track for his first breeze since that victory.
Extra Anejo, an Into Mischief colt who was a $1.35 million Keeneland September yearling purchase last year by Winchell Thoroughbreds, was a 9 1/2-length debut winner going seven furlongs on Oct. 13. He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 92, which places him among the upper tier of juveniles this year.
Exiting that first race, Asmussen described the colt as "overly aggressive" in his training, and he thus waited to get him back on the worktab.
"We just skipped a work, trying to get him to slow down and be a little bit more patient," Asmussen said. "He was in a bit of a hurry to show off coming out of the race, to show his dominance."
Extra Anejo breezed five furlongs in 1:03 on Sunday morning.
"At this juncture, we're going to address his mind more than anything else," Asmussen said.
Asmussen has not selected a next start for Extra Anejo, but knows the long-range goal.
"The Kentucky Derby," he said, "and how to get there in the best shape possible. Because he's a rare talent."
