Ashkal Way out with injury

Mike Welsch|Apr 18, 2007

Ashkal Way, who has won 7 of his 8 starts in the United States, including the Grade 1 Citation Handicap in his 2006 finale, will be sidelined indefinitely after injuring a tendon following his victory in Gulfstream Park's Lure Stakes on April 1.

"We discovered the injury about four or five days after the race," said Rick Mettee, assistant to Saeed bin Suroor, who trains Ashkal Way for Godolphin Racing.

"Tendon injuries can be tricky things, so at the moment it's hard to say when or even if he'll run again," Mettee said.

* Rondo, purchased by Godolphin for $2.9 million during the Fasig-Tipton 2-year-old sales in 2005, returned from a nine-month layoff to register an easy 4 3/4-length first level-allowance win at Gulfstream on Wednesday.
