Asheville runs off with Jiffy Lube Stakes
Coady Photography Asheville comes home an 8 1/2-length winner of the off-the-turf Jiffy Lube Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night.
Wet weather forced the at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night to the main track for the third time in four years, and favorite Asheville relished the going, winning off by 8 1/2 lengths over Pleasant State.
It was another three and a half lengths back in third to Lisa's Approval.
Asheville($5.40) stalked the pace early, then took command in the stretch, covering the mile and a sixteenth for fillies and mares over a track rated good in 1:45.52.
"I think that it was probably to her liking that the race came off the turf," said Casey Lambert, who rode Asheville for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Asheville earned $18,000, which improved her record to four wins in 17 starts and earnings of $137,850 for owner Nelson Bunker Hunt.
