ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The 3-year-old Artie’s Storm beat older Ontario-sired stakes rivals decisively under a textbook ride from David Moran in Saturday’s $101,200 Steady Growth Stakes at Woodbine.

Artie’s Storm saved ground in mid-pack through the opening half-mile in the 1 1/16-mile event, as 4-5 favorite Secret Reserve set quick fractions while being pressed by longshot Magical Man.

Artie’s Storm mounted a three-wide bid on the far turn and hit the front early in the stretch en route to a 1 1/4-length score in 1:44.04.

Full Extreme rallied wide for second, and Magical Man held on for third, while Secret Reserve faded to sixth in the 11-horse field.

Artie’s Storm defeated Ontario-sired 3-year-olds in his previous start in the Lake Ontario Stakes.

“He’s a lovely horse,” said Moran. “He always tries. He’s been running in tough races all year. Back-to-back stakes for him, and he won going away today. I was afraid I had to move a little soon, but they went quick up front and I just wanted to get out from behind that wall before they stopped. He picked it up and ran right to the wire.”

A 3-year-old gelding by We Miss Artie, Artie’s Storm ($7.20) earned $60,000 for Buttigieg Training Center and trainer Paul Buttigieg.

* Silent Causeway came from well back to collar 2-1 favorite November Fog in the final sixteenth and notch her first stakes victory in Saturday’s $100,800 La Prevoyante for Ontario-sired females.

Justin Stein rode Silent Causeway ($11.50), who won by two lengths and covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.62.

By Silent Name, Silent Causeway banked $60,000 for Krasauskaite Racing Stable and trainer Laura Krasauskaite.
