Arrogate works seven furlongs in prep for Dubai World Cup

ARCADIA, Calif. - Arrogate, winner of the $12 million Pegasus World Cup, worked seven furlongs in 1:24 at Santa Anita on Sunday in preparation for the $10 million Dubai World Cup in the United Arab Emirates on March 25.
Trainer Bob Baffert said after the workout that Arrogate will be sent to Dubai on March 13. The 4-year-old Arrogate will have an additional workout at Santa Anita next weekend before being shipped.
“One more good work and we’re off,” Baffert said.
Arrogate worked in company with a stablemate shortly after 9 a.m., a time in which there was noticeably little traffic on the racetrack.
Jockey Martin Garcia worked Arrogate, who started four lengths behind the workmate and closed steadily to get within a length on the turn.
Baffert timed Arrogate galloping out a mile in 1:39. He watched the workout in the stands with jockey Mike Smith, who will ride Arrogate.
When the work finished, Baffert turned to Smith and gave a one-word description: “Perfect.”
Arrogate will be a heavy favorite in the Dubai World Cup, which is run at 1 1/4 miles. Owned by Juddmonte Farms, Arrogate has won 6 of 7 starts and has earned $11,084,600. The champion 3-year-old male of 2016, Arrogate won the Grade 1 Travers Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic in his final two starts of 2016.
