Arriagada having terrific meet

Tom Keyser Juan Arriagada enjoyed his seventh multi-win day at the meet when he won two races Saturday.

Trainer Juan Arriagada enjoyed his seventh multiple-win day at the meet when he won two races on Saturday’s card to add to what has already been his career-best Tampa season. His 37 wins are second only to Kathleen O’Connell’s 50.

Arriagada has two runners on Wednesday’s card, topped by Sweet Nola, who seeks her third straight win at the meet in a first-level allowance/optional $16,000 claiming race that goes as the first of the day. Arriagada claimed Sweet Nola for $6,250 on Feb. 2 and promptly won a $10,000 claiming and a starter allowance in a span of 12 days.

This is another step up in class for Sweet Nola. She will likely have to beat Angelas Party Girl, who comes off a dominant seven-length win and seeks her third win at the meet in what will be her eighth start of the season. She also was claimed earlier in the meet for $6,250.

Cloud Storage had her three-race win streak snapped by Sweet Nola on March 26, a contest in which Cloud Storage had a wide trip. Her trainer, Benny Feliciano, has enjoyed a solid meet with eight wins from 31 starters.

Diaz has dislocated shoulder

Jockey Hector Diaz Jr. suffered a dislocated shoulder as a result of a spill in Friday’s eighth race, according to a press release from Tampa Bay Downs.

Diaz, whose 30 wins from 240 mounts put him eighth in the standings, was aboard the 3-year-old filly Hidden Recipe, who clipped heels with Mia Vita. Diaz was scheduled to meet with an orthopedist on Monday to determine how much time he will miss.

Mia Vita was ridden by Samy Camacho, who, according to the release, was given an eight-day suspension by the stewards that he will serve at the beginning of the 2025-26 meet. That’s because Camacho has a five-day suspension that he will serve beginning Sunday that lasts through the final week of the current meet.

Camacho, who trails Samuel Marin by seven wins for leading jockey at the meet, will ride here Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Hidden Recipe was uninjured as a result of the spill.
